faders 1-4 can be AmpEnv ADSR, 5-8 FilterEnv ADSR etc. And Studio One can map excellently itself to ‘dumb’ controllers which the Arturia is stronger at too, as it has the rotaries AND faders meaning you can develop a template for similar plugins making you less reliant on the screen too much. If you’re planning on using drawbar organs then Arturia is very strong with the 9 faders. There’s iPad apps which pair with studio one that are far better, if you have one. Likewise, unless you have powered faders any MiDI controller is quite pointless for DAW control too as it takes longer to check fader position and aligning where you are than just using the mouse (or a single standalone motorised fader with track select). If you buy on look and feel alone you will always be happy.

None of these controls can truly emulate the feel of a real synth as there’s too many variables to consider so don’t make that such a big part of the decision, the look and feel is really important when using any instrument, rather than how well it can ‘try’ and do everything. Think very carefully as how the keyboard plays should be primary concern, think music creativity first and technicalities second.

And as you’re comparing the A class Komplete series you’re losing the display for feedback which is a big element of choosing Komplete Kontrol S models for example, you’ll be having to load the wrapper with less obvious benefits. Even automation has to go through their wrapper for example.Īrturia is much better in that respect, of course, as it’s transparent. Which means it needs to be installed on every system you load your projects on in future, or else they will fail. as you need to run every plugin within their wrapper.
